Most times we have access only to natural light. Paying more attention to light is the most important think you can do to improve your photography.  As I said in previous post, photography means writing with light, so give a lot of attention to this phenomenon. The cost of equipment can be a fairly high level, whether it flashes, studio lights, strobes, softboxes, umbrellas, etc. But this is not a bad thing. Natural light is very pleasant to the human eyes, shadows and colors can reproduce very beautiful, and the costs are quite low. A disadvantage of this kind of light sources it is that it does not last for a long time. You have it available only for a few hours. Therefore, you should wisely plan your entire photo session. As much as possible you should avoid the sun between the hours of 12 to 14 because shadows can appear too harsh. You can prepare workspace near a large window. To create a light softer, you can use a blank canvas or velum, or any type of material that reduce light intensity. In most cases, it is preferable that the light to come from behind or from one side. To avoid hard shadows, you can use various filling methods: white cards, golden or silver cards, mirrors. A handy solution is aluminum foil that we use it for food packaging. To remain standing these cards, you can use hooks that are easily found in bricolage stores. There you can find other DIY articles that can be very useful.
Remember: natural lighting can be used not only in food photography, but also in portrait, macro, fashion and other styles. This light source is also free, don’t be afraid to use it! Enjoy it !
